Exams are over!

I recently bought the Essence cracking top coat, so trying it was the first thing I did after getting home yesterday :D The bottle says it's a top coat and there is a special base coat for it, too, but I didn't buy that one (there are only two colours available...??). I think there would be no point in a cracking polish if it could only be used on two different colours... So I bought the black top coat and that's it - if it doesn't work on any kind of polish, it's kind of worthless.

Nem rég beruháztam az Essence cracking fedőlakkjára (erre sincs magyar szó, mi? XD), úgyhogy amint tegnap hazaértem, az első dolgom az volt, hogy kipróbáljam :D Az üvegcse szerint ez egy fedőlakk és van hozzá speciális alapréteg is, de én olyat nem vettem (csak két színben létezik...??). Szerintem nem sok értelme lenne egy cracking lakknak, ha csak két különböző színen lehetne használni... Szóval megvettem a fekete fedőlakkot, és ennyi - ha nem működik minden típusú lakkon, akkor nem sokat ér.

I wanted some lively colour under the black crackle (I didn't even think about buying the white one, I don't like white polishes all over my nail - the french tip is the most I can bear). I ended up choosing between Essence's Lime up! and Sunshine 4ever. I've been wearing Lime up! recently, so I decided to give Sunshine 4ever a try. After applying two coats of it, the fun part began :D

Valami élénk színt akartam a fekete repedezett réteg alá (meg sem fordult a fejemben, hogy a fehéret megvegyem, nem szeretem a fehér lakkokat az egész körmömön - a francia manikűr a maximum, amit elviselek). Végül az Essence Lime up! és Sunshine 4ever árnyalatai között vacilláltam. Nem rég volt rajtam a Lime up! lakk, ezért a Sunshine 4ever mellett döntöttem. Két réteg felvitele után jött az érdekes része a dolognak :D

I saw on other blogs how the ladies tried to achieve different looks with cracking polishes, but I'll be honest, I didn't really like them. I mean when you don't paint your whole nail - I'm sorry, but I think it looks rather strange XD Using the brush in different ways, (horizontally, etc.) actually looks good and makes a huge difference, but I didn't want to try that now, I was just experimenting if the polish works at all x)

Láttam más blogokon, hogy a hölgyek hogy próbáltak meg különféle kinézetet elérni cracking lakkokkal, de őszinte leszek, nekem nem nagyon tetszettek. Mármint az amikor nem fested be az egész körmödet - sajnálom, de szerintem nagyon furcsán néz ki XD Az ecset különféle használata (vízszintesen, stb.) tulajdonképp jól néz ki és nagy különbséget is eredményez, de ilyesmit most nem akartam kipróbálni, elvégre csak kísérleteztem, hogy egyáltalán működik-e ez a lakk x)

I read some complaints about the Essence cracking top coat saying that it looks like it's torn apart rather than broken. Well, I think every single brand has different ways of "crackling", and this is just one of them. I like it, so I won't complain :D It's true that usually it breaks apart in the direction of the brush strokes (vertically in my case), but I don't think that's a problem or it looks worse this way.

Olvastam pár panaszt az Essence cracking fedőlakkal kapcsolatban, miszerint inkább úgy néz ki, mint ami darabokra szakad, nem pedig törik. Nos, szerintem minden márka máshogy "törik", és ez csak egy a sok közül. Nekem tetszik, szóval én nem panaszkodom :D Igaz, hogy nagyrészt az ecsetvonás irányában töredezik (az én esetemben függőlegesen), de nem hiszem, hogy ez gond lenne, vagy hogy így kevésbé nézne ki jól.

The brush itself is quite thin, which makes the application a little bit harder (and slower), but aside from this, I'm pleased with the polish ^^ I've read on other blogs about other brands of crackling polishes, and some of the reviewers wrote that they didn't apply top coat because they didn't want to lose the matt finish. Well, I didn't have that kind of problems, because the finish of this polish is not matt at all, if you ask me. (All the pictures you see in the post were taken with one layer of top coat.)

Az ecset maga elég vékony, ami nehezebbé (és lassabbá) teszi a lakkozást, de ezt leszámítva elégedett vagyok a lakkal ^^ Olvastam más blogokon, más márkájú lakkokkal kapcsolatban, hogy nem vittek fel rá fedőlakkot, mondván az elrontaná a matt színét. Nos, nekem ilyen problémám nem volt, mert egyáltalán nem matt ez a lakk, ha engem kérdeztek. (A bejegyzésben látható összes kép egy rétegnyi fedőlakkal készült.)

There is only one thing I want to add: my boyfriend said something about the overall look and it's been disturbing me since then, because he is right! He said it looks like a halloween manicure! O.O It really does, doesn't it? I've never realized that this Sunshine 4ever polish was this much on the orange side, I always considered it... dark yellow? XD Whatever. So now it disturbs me that I actually have a manicure in the middle of the summer, which reminds even my not-at-all-polish-maniac boyfriend about a holiday in autumn XD

Egyetlen dolgot szeretnék még hozzátenni: a barátom tett egy megjegyzést az összhatásra, és ez azóta is zavar, mert igaza van! Azt mondta, olyan, mint egy halloween manikűr! O.O És tényleg olyan, nem? Nem is vettem észre hogy a Sunshine 4ever ennyire a narancs felé hajlik, mindig úgy gondoltam rá, mint... sötét citromsárgára? XD Nem tudom. Szóval most zavar, hogy olyan manikűrt viselek a nyár kellős közepén, ami még az egyáltalán-nem-körömlakk-mániás barátomat is egy őszi ünnepre emlékezteti XD

Two wonderful sites to check out :)

Just like I said, I'm still in the middle of my exam period, so my nails are... less than creative right now. I'm not even sure I should take a picture of them, they're so plain :D But in the meantime, I though I would share two sites or pages or should I say opportunities with you.

First of all, I'm sure most of you out there use Facebook, why wouldn't you? If you don't, I highly recommend it, even if it's with a fake account and not for the sake of your friends and not revealing any information - that's okay. But nowadays you can miss loads of programs, invitations, sales, and of course lovely groups if you don't have a Facebook account. So go on and create one ^^

Why do I encourage you so much? Because the first opportunity I am about to show you is a Facebook Group! It's called Polish-aholics Anonymous. I'm a member myself :) Although I usually don't comment at all, I read almost everything posted. I still dared to ask for help once (ignoring the fact that I'm really one of those silent-reader types), and the girls in the group still helped me and gave me wonderful ideas :) (Haven't tried any of them yet, but soon... *hates exams*)

Polish-aholics Anonymous

Once you have joined (it's not complicated at all, you just have to click the 'Ask to Join Group' button, no-one will question you or anything ^^), you will get so much in return. You will probably find out how many other addicted ladies you have in your city, or even in your neighbourhood. You'll see tons of swatches, designs, blogs to follow, and last but not least, you will find loads of friends with the same interest. You can even arrange swaps, browse through wishlists, and so much more! So this is one of the greatest pros of Facebook :) (It has tons of cons, too, but why mention them here.)

The other site I'm about to introduce is a much more organized way of sharing pictures and thoughts - a forum. I'm sure most of you have already heard of Cutepolish, since I've tried to recreate a few of her ideas. And not to mention the fact that I think she is one of the most popular nail artist out there on the internet, so I don't really expect anyone to know me, but not know her :) So, back to topic: she has recently created Cutepolish Community! I was one of the firsts to join, and I hope it will get lively soon. This community is still really new and there is not much to see - yet. But I wouldn't miss the opportunity to be one of the true founders of a lively and wonderful community like this :) So go ahead!

Ladybug invasion!

This time I wanted something foolproof again, a design hard to mess up. But I still wanted something cute and summer-like (well, it's summer here, so why not), this is why I did this ladybug design - quite simple, cute, and not too time-consuming. (The latest one is a real important factor in the middle of the exam period. Hah.) Here it goes - ladybugs!

Ezúttal is valami hülyebiztosat akartam, egy olyan dizájnt, amit nehéz elrontani. De mégis valami aranyosra és nyáriasra vágytam (végül is itt éppen nyár van, szóval miért ne), ezért készítettem el ezt a katicás dizájnt - meglehetősen egyszerű, aranyos, és nem különösebben időigényes. (Ez utóbbi nagyon fontos a vizsgaidőszak közepén. Hah.) Íme, itt vannak ők - a katicák!

I wonder if they would look better if I had placed the dots randomly. What do you think?
Azon gondolkozom, jobban nézne-e ki, ha véletlenszerűen lennének a pöttyök. Szerintetek?

At first I had doubts about my nail length. I've seen this design (at least variations of it) many times and I always thought it looked better on shorter nails. Not those extreme, couldn't-cut-it-any-shorter nails, but the decent, nicely shaped ones. After finishing all of my nails, I still think it would look better on slightly shorter ones, but I simply couldn't cut them :D

Eleinte kétségeim voltak a körmeim hosszúságát illetően. Elég sokszor láttam már ezt a dizájnt (legalábbis különféle változatait) és mindig úgy gondoltam, rövidebb körmökön jobban mutat. Nem azokon a nagyon rövid, ennél-rövidebbre-nem-is-vághatnád körmökön, hanem a visszafogott, szép formájúakon. Miután végeztem minden körmömmel, még mindig úgy gondolom, jobban mutatna, ha kicsivel rövidebbek lennének, de nem volt szívem levágni őket :D

The shape of my nails is one of the reasons why I decided on ladybugs. I've seen it done on square shaped nails, and I've only seen one design so far which actually looked okay. (Ladybugs aren't cubic after all, are they?) I had no problem with that, and I'm glad my nails are oval at the moment. I'm planning on doing a post about this sometime soon, so stay tuned :)

A körmeim formája az egyik oka annak, hogy a katicák mellett döntöttem. Láttam már szögletes körmökön is, de eddig talán egyetlen dizájnnal találkoztam, ami tűrhetően nézett ki. (A katicák nem kocka alakúak, nem igaz?) Szóval ezzel nem volt gondom, örülök, hogy a körmeim épp kerekre vannak reszelve. Tervezek erről egy blogbejegyzést nemsokára :)

After applying the top coat, the end result was nice, but too shiny for my taste, and the ladybug itself also got kinda lost in between all those reflecting lights and shine... I think you know where this leads: matt top coat! At first I wasn't sure it was a good decision, but the red base itself is quite shimmery, so I'm glad I applied it after all.

A fedőlakk felvitele után a végeredmény ugyan szép volt, de az én ízlésemnek túl fényes, és maga a katica is eléggé elveszett a visszaverődő fényekben és csillogásban... Azt hiszem, tudjátok, ez hova vezetett: matt fedőlakk! Először nem voltam biztos benne, hogy jó döntés volt, de a piros alap maga is elég csillogós, így végül örülök, hogy felvittem ezt a réteget is.

I didn't need much for this design - just two colours and a dotting tool. (Yeah, I created the lines with the dotting tool, too. I just can't get on well with thin nail art brushes.)

Nem volt szükségem sok mindenre ehhez a dizájnhoz - két szín és egy pöttyöző eszköz, aminek még mindig nem tudom a magyar nevét. (Igen, a vonalakat is ezzel készítettem. Egyszerűen nem jövök ki jól a vékony dekor ecsetekkel.)

I was planning on adding eyes, too, but I changed my mind.
Úgy terveztem, szemeket is rajzolok, de meggondoltam magam.

I also realised this design makes nails look longer - probably because of the vertical line. In the end, I'm satisfied with this manicure, and it probably will stay for a week :)

Az is feltűnt, hogy ez a dizájn optikailag nyújtja a körmöt - valószínűleg a függőleges vonal miatt. Végül is elégedett vagyok ezzel a manikűrrel, valószínűleg egy hétig fent marad :)

Red base and white roses

Just like I said before, I wiped my failed newspaper nails clean today, and came up with a completely different idea. There is not much to say about this one - I chose one of my favourite nail polish colours ever: Essence's Thirsty! (from the Eclipse collection), thought about a colour that would really catch the eye - white -, and began painting.

Mint ahogy azt már említettem, ma lemostam az elrontott újságpapír manikűrömet, és valami egészen mással álltam elő. Nem tudok sok mindent mondani erről - kiválasztottam az egyik kedvenc színemet: az Essence Thristy! nevű lakkját (az Eclipse kollekcióból), kigondoltam, mi üt el tőle nagyon - fehér -, és elkezdtem a festést.

Szándékosan helyeztem el össze-vissza a rózsákat - így jobban néz ki (szerintem)

After a base coat, I added two coats of Thirsty!, and then grabbed my dotting tool, Avon's white polish, and began drawing roses. It's not hard at all, really, anyone can try it. No matter how and where you place those small lines (petals), if you end up with something close to a circle, it will look like a rose anyway.

Az alapozó réteg után felvittem két rétegnyi Thirsty!-t, aztán megfogtam aaa... hogy hívják ezt magyarul? Pöttyöző? Pontozó? Szóval a vékony kis piszkafát a gombóccal a végén, az Avon fehér lakkját, és elkezdtem rózsákat rajzolni. Egyáltalán nem nehéz, tényleg, akárki kipróbálhatja. Mindegy, hogyan és hova rajzolod a kis vonalkákat (szirmokat), ha végül valami körhöz hasonló alakot kapsz, mindenképp rózsának fog tűnni.

I'm satisfied with this one, it's not perfect though.
Elégedett vagyok vele, bár azért nem tökéletes.

Finally I added top coat, and here it is. Nothing special, nothing involving any possibility of failure, just a dotting tool and some patience :)

Végül kentem rá egy réteg fedőlakkot, és íme. Semmi különleges, semmi, amit könnyen elronthatnék, csak egy pöttyöző(?!) és egy kis türelem :)

There is only one issue - bubbles again. This polish is usually not bubbly, so I must have messed it up somehow. Next time I'll be more careful :)

Csak egy gondom van vele - megint a buborékok. Ez a lakk általában nem hajlamos rá, úgyhogy valószínűleg én rontottam el valamit. Legközelebb óvatosabb leszek :)

This one will last for about a week I think, not like the newspaper one :)
Ez ki fog tartani körülbelül egy hétig, nem úgy, mint az újságpapíros :)

Newspaper nails - another fail

Unfortunately, this fail cannot get away with something like "I wanted it to look like this". (If you don't know what I'm talking about, check one of my previous posts with the gradient blue-wannabe manicure.) I rewatched Cutepolish's videos the other day, and decided on this design. Later, I found other tutorials, too, and decided to go with a different method. I didn't dip my nails into the alcohol like Cutepolish did, but dipped the newspaper pieces instead. I just didn't like the idea of soaking half my fingers in alcohol, which dries your skin so much, ew...

Sajnos ezt a kudarcot nem fogom tudni annyival elintézni, hogy "Ilyenre akartam". (Ha nem tudod, miről beszélek, nézd meg az előző posztjaim közül a színátmenetes kéknek szánt manikűrt.) Ismét megnéztem Cutepolish videóit a minap, és emellett a dizájn mellett döntöttem. Később más videókat is találtam róla, és végül más módszer mellett döntöttem. Nem a körmömet mártottam alkoholba, mint Cutepolish, hanem az újságpapír-darabkákat. Nem igazán tetszett az ötlet, hogy a fél ujjamat akoholba áztassam, ami annyira kiszárítja a bőrt, eh...

I didn't want to use pure white polish as a base, and I don't have any greys, so I chose Essence's Multi Dimension No. 26, called Best Friends, which is a pretty pearl colour with satin finish (and hard application, but I've already complained about that before). I was a bit more experienced than the first time, so I managed to achieve a quite even coating with two layers of polish. Last time I had troubles with bubbles (sounds funny), so I actually waited one whole hour between the application of the two coats. Needless to say, bubbles are still there, just smaller and not as many as last time.

Nem akartam hófehér lakkot használni alapnak, szürkém pedig nincsen, így az Essence Multi Dimension kollekciójából választottam a 26-os számú lakkot, ami a Best Friends névre hallgat, és egy szép gyöngyházfényű lakk, selyemfényű felszínnel (és nehéz felvinni, de erről már panaszkodtam korábban). (Úr isten ez de hülyén hangzik magyarul, bocsánat.) Kicsit tapasztaltabb voltam most, mint első alkalommal, így egészen egyenletesen sikerült felvinnem a lakkot, már két rétegben is. Legutóbb gondjaim voltak a buborékokkal, így most egy egész órát vártam a két réteg felvitele között. Mondanom sem kell, a buborékok így is ott vannak, csak kisebbek, és kevesebb, mint legutóbb.

I waited four whole hours before starting the big performance, and it was enough not to mess up the two coats of Essence polish, but waiting more would have been even better. I don't know why it turned out like this, but the letters are barely visible on my nails. The very first nail I did, my left thumb turned out to be the best one, which is quite surprising - I usually get the hang of these things, not mess them up more as time goes by. Practice doesn't count when it comes to newspaper nails, so it seems :)

Négy órát vártam, mielőtt belekezdtem a nagy mutatványba, és ez elég volt ahhoz, hogy ne tegyem tönkre a két réteg Essence lakkot, de ha még többet vártam volna, még jobb lett volna. A legelső köröm, amit megcsináltam, a bal hüvelykujjamé lett a legjobb, ami eléggé meglepő - általában sikerül ráéreznem az ilyesmire, nem pedig egyre jobban elcseszem, ahogy telik az idő. A gyakorlat nem számít, ha újságpapír körmökről van szó, úgy tűnik :)

There's nothing more I can say, I messed this one up. But I don't know how, which makes me quite reluctant about trying it again. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! I really love how these nails look (when done correctly), and I would love to wear them myself. I'll probably try the dip-in-the-nail method later, but not nowadays, that's for sure.

Nem nagyon van más mondanivalóm, ezt eléggé elrontottam. De nem tudom, mivel, ami miatt eléggé vonakodom attól, hogy újra próbálkozzam vele. Ha bárkinek van bármi tanácsa, szóljon! Tényleg nagyon tetszik, ahogy ezek a körmök kinéznek (feltéve ha jól sikerülnek), és nagyon szeretném magamon tudni őket. Valószínűleg ki fogom próbálni a köröm-mártogatós módszert később, de nem mostanában, az biztos.
